Our Aging Population

The demographic landscape of the United States is undergoing a significant transformation, particularly in terms of age distribution. As of 2021, the country is home to over 55.8 million individuals aged 65 and above, representing approximately 16.8% of the total population. This segment of the population is expected to expand considerably in the coming decades. Projections indicate that by 2040, the proportion of older adults will rise to 22%. This shift is largely attributed to the aging of the baby boomer generation. By 2030, when the last of the baby boomers reach older adulthood, it is estimated that the number of older adults in the U.S. will surpass 73.1 million.(America’s Health Rankings).

This underscores the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene.
  • The American Academy of Geriatric Oral Health (AAGOH) is dedicated to improving the oral health of older Americans. By bringing together experienced dentists, AAGOH aims to raise awareness, conduct research, and promote best practices in geriatric oral health care.
  • Our goal is to enhance the overall quality of life for older adults by addressing their unique oral health needs. By preventing oral diseases, managing dental conditions, and promoting oral health education, we can help older individuals maintain their oral health and overall well-being.
